xx WWE Smackdown! *Spoilers* (3/15/05) - Savannah, Ge

Report by: pwinsider.com

Show opened with Kurt Angle in the ring cutting a promo on Shawn Michaels and telling Marty Jannetty that his tag match with Michaels on Monday was not going to help him prepare for a match with an Olympic Gold Medalist. Marty looks great. Last time I saw him, he looked like he was on the Ricky Morton diet. He’s gotten into shape and can still go in the ring. This was the longest match of the night. Angle obviously works a less physical match than I’ve seen him put on in the past, but he still puts it together as well as anyone in the business. Very good match that did not steal any heat from Marty if they plan to use him in the future. Ending saw Marty tapping out after escaping the ankle lock twice.

JBL and Theodore Long in the back. Long tells JBL that if Cena touches him before WrestleMania, he would lose his title shot. However, he was suspending the stipulation for one night in a tag match where Cena could have JBL from “bell to bell.” Of course, JBL was joined by the new US Champion–Orlando Jordan. Huh? I haven’t been watching, but this guy deserves a title run? And Cena deserves a title match after losing to this guy? If WWE puts the title on Cena, they could have easily had a tournament for the belt. The Smackdown PPVs can use all the help they can get. This reminds of David Arquette for World Champ.

Luther Reigns and Booker T are next. Heidenreich is at the announce table. He exchanges some words with Booker T before the match, but doesn’t interfere as The Book cleanly finishes Reigns with the Ax kick. Afterwards, Heidenreich cut one of those poetry promos that make absolutely no sense. Oh well, at least I could see myself on TV the whole time.

Between the matches, Torrie, Jackie, and Dawn Marie were in the audience taking pictures and posing with the crowd.

We’re back and it’s time to sign the contracts. Out comes Long followed by a surprise visit from Bischoff who takes the mic to introduce Raw’s Randy Orton. Crowd quickly to their feet and popping. Long introduces Smackdown’s phenom, the Undertaker. Crowd is going nuts now. Taker signs the contract. Orton picks up the pen then cuts a promo telling Taker that the difference between him and the other 12 guys Taker beat at WrestleMania is that he’s not scared of him. He signs the contract and slaps Taker. Long and Bischoff clear the ring quickly. Orton gets out the ring and slowly makes his way up the ramp looking back at Taker. The Taker raises his arms and boom explosions for Orton. Let’s face it, the Taker gimmick works. Biggest pop of the night and the guy never says a word.

Time for popcorn. Billy Kidman and Paul London are next. This was the only match of the night with no WrestleMania build. Billy Kidman is talented and I know there are a lot of people out there that like his work. My problem is the guy seems to sleep his way through matches. He knows all the moves and puts them together well, but he doesn’t put on “great” matches with anyone. Add that the guy has the personality of a pet rock and it’s bathroom time. Paul London gets the pin with a 450 splash.

Big Show comes out to cut a prom on Akemono for their Sumo match at WrestleMania. Sumohuh Give me a break. Big Show could even look mildly interested in this match. Hope they have a surprise planned.

Backstage, JBL and Jordon are still looking for Cena. JBL has come up with a plan to make Cena mad so that he’ll hit him and lose his title shot at Mania.

Chavo cuts a great promo on Eddie backstage. Chavo tells Eddie that last year he was World Champ, now he’s tag champs with Rey. He tells him that with all the times Rey has beat him, if you can’t beat em’, join em’. He tells Eddie that Rey’s holding him back. Chavo tells Eddie to do the family a favor and quit calling himself a Guerrero. Yeah, I can’t spell it.

During one of the photo ops, Dawn Marie gets fed up with the Smackdown Diva winner stealing her shots and a cat fight breaks out. Refs quickly break it up. Not sure if this one is on TV.

JBL finds Cena in the back and tries to make him hit him. Cena restrains himself then tells JBL, thanks for the pep talk, he’ll see him in the ring.

Tag match features JBL and Bashams vs. Eddie, Rey, and Cena. If you’ve never seen them live, the only thing you can try to do in a match like this is keep your eyes on Eddie and Rey. They’re quick and if you blink, you miss something. Cena gets his hands on JBL a couple of times, but nothing spectacular. Ending saw Eddie take down one of the Bashams and head to the top for the Frog Splash. Rey comes over the top rope for the Plancha and the pin as Eddie looks on disappointed. The faces leave the ring and we’re out. After Smackdown goes off the air, Long comes out and tells JBL that he will have to face Cena one more time. He reassures Cena that he has his back… Holla holla holla. Cena comes out and is quickly jumped by Jordan and the rest of the Cabinet. Out comes big show who takes down the entire Cabinett leaving JBL easy pickings for Cena. And we’re out.

Report by Michael

I was at Smackdown last night and here are some of the results (not all, since I didn't write it all down). I might be off on the sequence of events, but that's what alcohol will do to you kids (hahahaha).

Show opens with Tazz interviewing Big Show about his upcoming "Sumo match" with Akebono (rhymes nicely with Sonny Bono). Tazz hype's up Akebono's appearance for next week. Luther Reigns comes out driving a Jeep and says that he should be the one facing Akebono, not the Big Show. To prove this, Luther says that he will personally tip over the Jeep onto its side. After a couple of failed attempts, Luther jumps in the ring (while Big Show was laughing at him) and gets chokeslammed. Then, with the crowd urging him on, Big Show attempts to tip over the Jeep. Some of this portion may be edited for TV because Big Show had some difficulties at first. Then, a guy comes out from the back with a jack and lifts up part of the Jeep. Eventually, it's enough for Big Show to tip it over.

Kurt Angle in the back says he's got another "Blast from the Past" for HBK later tonight. Angle is hilarious!!!!!

Scotty Too Hotty was scheduled to wrestle Orlando Jordan, but during the intro Scotty and JBL get into it and ultimately they wrestle each other. After the predictable "worm", JBL kicks out, eventually hits the "clothesline from Hell" and gets the pin.

Hulk Hogan's Hall of Fame promo with footage of WrestleMania IX vs. Yokozuna shows up on the Titantron. I, admittedly, mark out for Hogan. He's "THE MAN" and everybody knows it. Unfortunately, I'm in Memphis where there's more Flair fans than Hulkamaniacs. BTW, lots of "whoooo" chants all night (which is always lots of fun). When I lived up in Chicago the Hogan chants at the Allstate Arena were always loud and strong. I guess Hogan appeals more to "Northerners" (like me) than "Southerners" like Memphis. That's just the way it is folks.

Teddy Long says he's got a treat for Memphis. He says he's got an Elvis impersonator to entertain us. Out comes Carlito Cool trying to sing some Elvis songs. My only question is this:
Where's The Honky Tonk Man when you really need him?

Chavo and Eddie are in the back. Chavo says Eddie should wrestle Rey and Mania.

Undertaker on the TitonTron says that there will be a "sacrifice" tonight to send a message to Randy Orton. All throughout the night during the matches, there's bits and pieces of thunder and lightning as the "threat" of the Undertaker loomed.

Best part of the night. Angle comes out to HBK's music and Sensational Sherri Martel accompanies him. Kurt points out that Sherri was instrumental in Shawn's career early on and even points out that it was Sherri who originally sang his theme song, "Sexy Boy." Kurt says that he can sing it better than HBK. So, they hit the music and Angle and Sherri start singing "Sexy Boy." Angle even dances and poses like HBK. Totally hilarious!!!!! HBK shows up on the Titantron and then rolls out a video montage of HBK's career. At the end Sherri is shown looking "emotional" as if to say, "that's my boy." Angle throws her down and slaps on the ankle lock. Note: Sherri's not looking too good these days, but all the fans at the arena got a nice "nip shot" as she was being carried out after the segment.

During breaks they're airing the WrestleMania Trailers. It goes over big with the crowd.

Dawn Marie beat Mc??. Too quick and not enough "skin" for the Memphis folks. Completely pointless match, too.

Eddie and Rey talk in the back. Eddie poses a challenge to Rey for a match at Mania.

Eddie and Rey defeat Charlie Haas and Hardcore Holly. Afterwards, Rey and Eddie speak in the ring and Rey accepts Eddies challenge at Mania. No heel turn for Eddie.

Carlito in the back being interviewed by Funaki. Funaki grabs Carlito's Elvis shades and Carlito break the guitar over Funaki's head. My only question is this:
Where's The Honky Tonk Man when you really need him?

Booker T. vs. Rene Dupree. In the middle of the match, the lights go out, smoke emits from the ring. Lights come back on and Taker shows up behind Dupree. Taker chokeslams Dupree and then piledrives Dupree on the stairs. (NOTE: during the WrestleMania Trailers, taker sneaked out with other ring workers and sneaked into the ring. I noticed it immediately. It was kinda like finding out that there really is no such thing as Santa Claus).

Cena and JBL "Debate." Teddy Long mediates. Cena entices JBL to throw a punch (so that way Cena would be "allowed" to punch back). Cena spray paints JBL's limo, pours water in his 10 gallon hat, cuts his tie and tries it on, and ultimately spray paints "FU" on his shirt. Lots of quick-witted comments by Cena. Good mic work. Show ends.

After the show, Cena vs. JBL in a non-title match. Match ends with ref bump, chair-shot that backfired on JBL, Cena hits the "FU." Everybody goes home happy.

Overall, good show.

Pops:
Stone Cold Footage
HBK on Titantron
Cena
Taker

Heat:
JBL
Angle

Final note: decent size crowd (maybe 8,000 - 10,000). Could have had more fans, but considering we had a tornado warning in effect, not a bad attendance. Note to WWE: they need to push RVD more when he returns from injury. His new DVD is awesome and selling nicely down here. In fact, I wish Vinnie Mac would bring in Sabu. Now, we're talking "action." My opinion, Sabu should is a wrestling legend.

Kurt Angle submitted "Jose from San Diego" (0:36)
JBL over Rey Mysterio, Jr. via DQ (14:11)

Dark Match
John Cena & Big Show(O) pinned JBL & Orlando Jordan(X) (1:53)

--------

Arena was pretty much soldout, bar a few scattered seats here and there.

Smackdown! opened with the proverbial 15 minute interview that started with JBL stating his intentions with a rematch with John Cena. This led to Eddy Guerrero interrupting to the biggest pop of the night issuing his own intentions of facing Cena. Booker T was next, followed by Big Show, Rey Mysterio, and Kurt Angle, in that order. Kurt Angle - "I was arrested Sunday night. I was arrested on charges of armed robbery. I was arrested for stealing the show!" Kurt Angle - "OK, let's get a few things straight here. You, you, and you (pointing to Big Show, JBL, and Eddy) all LOST at Wrestlemania. You (Booker T) weren't even AT Wrestlemania. And unfortunately for you (Mysterio), you must be THIS TALL in order to challenge for the title." This all led to Theodore Long declaring a "Number One Contender Championship Series" involving the six challengers to take place over the next month or so on Smackdown! Tonight would be the first match pitting JBL against Rey Mysterio, Jr.

Paul London and Billy Kidman had a decent but underwhelming match that consisted of Kidman on offense for 90% of the match. London bled here and it was actually enough to warrant a change in the ring mat after the match. London won with a roll-up. Chavo Guerrero, who was a guest commentator for the match attacked London with Kidman's assistance.

Big Show and Luther Reigns was set up by a Reigns promo in the back where he was making fun of Show's Wrestlemania Sumo match. Match was nothing.

John Cena gave a decent but done before promo declaring "The Champ is here!" a few dozen times. This was kept under ten minutes.

Kurt Angle defeated "Jose from San Diego, California!" in 36 seconds in the Hometown Challenge. Angle revealed after the match that he would face Eddy Guerrero next week in match number two of the Number One Contender Championship Series.

Also next week, Carlito will debut his own talk show that will be "cooler than Piper's Pit" called Carlito's Cabana.

The proverbial 10 minute Diva bikini contest.

JBL defeated San Diego's own Rey Mysterio, Jr. by DQ in the only match of the night to cross the ** plateau (in my opinion, of course). This was decent enough, ending when Eddy interfered to attack JBL even though Mysterio had just hit his finisher and was in the process of the pin count. This of course was to simply fuel the fire towards the heel turn. After the match JBL, Orlando Jordan, and the Bashams beat on Eddy and Rey until John Cena made the save. This is where I presume the cameras stopped rolling. Theodore Long then came out and "treated us" to Cena & Show vs. JBL & Jordan. This only lasted 1:53 when Show pinned Jordan with a chokeslam. At this point I took off so I very well may have missed something else, possibly a Taker appearance.

Overall the show was a typical Smackdown, aka not so great. The main event was decent and Akio/Funaki for Velocity was a fun little match. Other than that a very underwhelming night to say the least.

xx **SPOILERS** WWE SmackDown! Taping Results
« Reply #34 on: Nov 11th, 2005, 05:56am »

09 Nov 2005 by Ryan Clark

I just got back from Smackdown tapings. They had most of the top section's and some side sections blocked off. They had a alright turn out.

Before they had the darkmatch they aired the WrestleMania Music Video thing.

Before Velocity tapings they had one dark match. It was Slyvan vs. Funaki. Pretty quick match, Slyvan got the win.

After that the Velocity announcers were announced, and they came out and walked to the announce table.

The first Velocity match was LOD vs. Nunzio and Vito. LOD got the quick win when they had the Dooms Day.

After that Simon Dean came out and started to call all the fans in Indiana fat, but as he was getting ready to say it Hardcore Holly's, music hit and he said "The Simon System does not really work" Then they started fighting. It then turned into a match and Hardcore won when he hit the Alambama Slam.

The next match was Paul London and Spanky vs. Paul Britchell and William Regal. London and Spanky got the win when they knocked Regal off the apron, and then they doubled teamed on Paul, and ended up getting the win.

Next match was Kid Kash vs. Scotty 2 Hotty. Hardly anyone in the crowd knew who Kash was, which to me is very disapointing. Anyway, Scotty tried to go for the Worm, but Kash stopped it, and ended up winning with hitting a moon sult.

Then they turned the lights the blue lighting, and was ready for Smackdown to start.

Before they started the show they aired a WWE 24/7 Music Video.

Then the Opening WWE Intro went off, and backstage we saw Teddy Long talking to the whole Smackdown Roster. He said that tonight there will be four matches and who wins those matches will be on the Smackdown Surivior Series Team, and he then announced that Batista would be the team captin for the team. Randy Orton then said that he should be in the match becasue he won last years Surivior Series match. Teddy Long then said he could show that to him in his match tonight.

After that they aired the opening for Smackdown and then the pyro for the show went off.

Right off they had a match. The winner would be in the Surivior Series match. The match was Rey Mysterio vs. Randy Orton. Rey tired to hit a 619, but was stopped by Randy Orton. Then Rey started fighting back and he finally had Orton on the mat he went for a move on the rope, but Bob Orton pulled down Mysterio and the ref saw it, and DQed Orton. After the match the Ortons started a beat-down a Rey Mysterio. Matt Hardy then came down and beat Bob Orton up, and through him out of the ring. He give a Twist of Fate to Randy Orton.

Backstage: Randy Orton is backstage, and he said that Matt Hardy will pay for what he did with a RKO!

MNM then came out. Fans where upset that Melina did not get into the ring like she does most of the time. She then said that we are lucky that she is even here tonight becasue she should be at home. The fans then started boooing MNM. Melina then said not to disrespect MNM. After that she said she was a model even before models were cool. Melina then brought on one of the American's Top Models. Melina then told her that she can be a C list Celebirty, but she is not cool enough to hang with MNM, but she could hang with Gary Coleman. Then the Mexicools came out and beat MNM up. They then danced in the ring with the Model.

They then had anouther Surivior Series avancement match. It was Bobby Lashley vs. Orlando Jordan. Lashley beat Orlando in about one min.

Edge is then backstage he tells Teddy Long to kill the match. Toddy then says he will kill the match if its okay with Batista. Edge then said alright we will go back to are room and you can ask Batista, but Toddy said he would not do that and that he would have to ask himself.

They then had yet another Surivior Series advancement match. This time it was Eddie vs. Ken Kennedy. Kennedy got a huge pop, but so did Eddie. Half the crowd was chanting for Kennedy and the other half was chanting for Eddie. Eddie got thrown into the ref, and the ref got knocked out. Eddie then grabed a chair, and through it and Kennedy grabed, but then Eddie fell to the mat and then ref thought Kennedy hit Eddie with the chair, and decleared the match a DQ and announced Eddie the winner. Kennedy then got mad and hit Eddie in the hand with the chair.

Backstage: the Dr. says that Eddie may be hurt. Batista then comes up and ask Eddie how he was doing.

Backstage: Edge leaves to confront Batista. He tells Lita to stay there. As Edge leaves the Boogey Man pops up and shoots a crapy promo. Then Lita runs off yelling.

They then had a Juniors match. Don't remember there names, so I won't got into detail.

Edge is backstage and he ask Batista if he wants to kill the match. Edge then says he and Batista is a lot a like, and they have no reason to fight. Batista then says "We are a lot a like, but there is one thing different when I sign a contract for a match I have that match!" As Edge is leaving he says Batista is makings a mistake.

Chris Benoit vs. JBL was probably one of the match match of the night. It was probably a 30 min or longer match-up. It was for the last spot in the Surivior Series match. Close to the middle of the match Benoit was going to hit a Head-Butt from the top rope, but just then Booker T's music hit. He walked out and went to the announcers table. The match then went on for a little longer.Benoit finally got a sharpshooter on JBL. It looked as if he was going to tap out, but then Booker T jumped onto the apporn of the ring. Benoit ripped his shirt off and knocked him down to the floor. He then turned around and get hit with a Closeline from hell. JBL then got the win.

After the match they had a interview with the dicks. It was a pretty funny interview. They announced that next week on Smackdown they would fight LOD.

Then Edge came out to the ring, and they showed the highlight from RAW why Edge is on Smackdown. Next Batista comes out. Just as the bell sounds for the match to start. It shows Eric Bischoff is on the tron. Teddy Long Says: "Your not welcomed to the show, Eric!" Eric then started tring to get into the arena, but he would just not let him then all of a sudden Chris Masters put Teddy in the Master Lock. Eric Bischoff and Chris Masters then left in a limo. More then half the Smackdown roster then chased the limo down by getting into another limo, and leaveing the arena. After that Kane's pyro and music went off, and he got into the ring. Then Big Shows music hit and he walked out, and he came out through the card(He came out my area too. Its crazy to see how big he is when you are right by him) Big Show and Kane then a beat-down on Batista. A few Smackdown guys came out to help Batista, but was destroyed by Kane and Big Show. Kane, BigShow, Edge, and Lita then all went through the card once again. END SHOW.

After that Randy Orton's music hit and he came out and said "Oh, Batista I guess I am to late to help you! Well, we where going to have a triple-threat, but Eddie can't wrestle now, so it will be a one-on-one match between you and me for the Heavyweight Championship. I believe this all happened off camera, so I believe it was a darkmatch. Orton got into the ring and started kicking Batista for awhile, and then Batista got up and started fighting Orton. The match probably only went on for five mins, or so. Then Batista won with a spine buster.

Tony, then told us thanks for coming, and watch Smackdown Friday on UPN.

Biggest Pops: Batista, Ken Kennedy, LOD, Eddie, Kane, and Big Show.

Over all I think this is probably one of the match Smackdowns they have had in ahwile. I had ninth row on the floor, so it was pretty good seats. After the show ended Charile Robenson started taking down the railing.
