Easily Fixing an Xbox 360

hey everyone,
my xbox 360 broke and I don't know what to do because it's past the warranty or whatever... i. I have heard that you can fix it yourself if you want to save money instead of getting a new one, but i have no idea what i am doing...
sooo my question is has anyone here ever done this before and if so is it easy to do or should i just buy a new xbox 360..
